Laura Benanti - Tony Award Winning Actress
“Tessa is a remarkable teacher, and person! Her intuitive understanding and extensive knowledge of the voice is unparalleled. Tessa has a rare ability to communicate ideas and concepts in a way that is (almost) immediately applicable. She is more than a teacher. Tessa is a mentor.”
Dr Erika Schwartz, M.D. - Physician, Author
“As a physician I’ve spent many hours of my life speaking to patients. Eventually I started writing books and started my career as a public speaker. I had the opportunity to record the audio version on my most recent book. Without the help of Tessa Lang and Johannes Schwaiger I never would have ever even entertained the possibility of accomplishing such a monumental feat.
My voice has always been my Achille’s heel and I would never have dared ever try to record my own book. Tessa walked me through every step. With kindness, expertise and never wavering support she helped me deliver a product I am truly proud of.
I have my own audio book entirely due to Tessa’s outstanding technique and understanding of the human voice. Her ability to express the most outstanding voice from a common human being like myself is a testimonial to hers and Johannes’s magical touch. I am grateful every day of my life for having them in my life. Thank you Tessa and Johannes.”
Matisyahu - Recording Artist
"Johannes and Tessa are unbelievable individuals who unite as one with a vision of peace which is expressed both through their sensitivity as people as well as through their voices."
Sophie Hawley-Weld - Recording Artist, Sofi Tukker Band
Every time I leave a visit with Tessa, I feel myself singing on the subway, singing in the streets, singing in the shower... singing anywhere and everywhere. I can't stop singing because my voice just feels so open and capable. I can breath better, my eyes are more open, I don't need as much caffeine. It's really simple: I have more oxygen! Through her hands-on work, my voice opens up and we create space I didn't even know was possible. Beyond that, Tessa is a holistic healer and teacher. She has helped me with my dental healthcare, neurological healthcare, and emotional healthcare. She notices everything and cares deeply. The voice is a by product of my whole self and she makes sure to take care of the WHOLE me.

As a woman, I have become more empowered and centered and able to express how I feel with a voice and a breath that feels like me for the first time in my life. “Tessa took me in hoarse, closed off, defeated, and scared. In a short time, she restored my voice and helped me reclaim my birthright- the power of speaking and singing my truth. I think of her and the gifts she taught me every day on the set and in my life. She is an irreplaceable member of my professional inner circle and of my family. She is a healing warrior who fought for me to get my life back. I owe her everything.”

“Tessa works with patience, intensity, empathy, and an infectious passion for what she does. She has given me practical tools to develop a strong and healthy voice, as well as the encouragement and support I’ve needed along the way. Beyond her vast knowledge and expertise, she is a very special person with the skill of empowering her students to take hold of their own artistry. I leave lessons with Tessa feeling deeply inspired and motivated to utilize our work together in my art. Every lesson with Tessa is, in and of itself, a work of art; crafted with years of experience and a carefully attuned sensitivity to what will serve me best on that given day."

“Before I met Tessa, I spent years searching for answers about my voice and breathing mechanism. My relentless search propelled me across the world and into the classrooms and offices of over a dozen different teachers. Devastated, literally gasping for breath, and having given up all hope of ever feeling truly connecting to a speaking or singing voice, a friend recommended that I meet Tessa.
I remember the incredible feeling of relief I experienced during my consultation with Tessa, as she was able to identify exactly what I had been feeling for many years of my life - and furthermore, she knew how to reconnect me to what I had been searching for: my divine birthright to breath without constriction and to speak and sing with my true voice. Working with Tessa I have experienced a complete transformation - mind, body and spirit. I feel more connected to my (literal and metaphorical) voice than I ever imagined possible. I no longer gasp for air, I no longer receive comments on the disconnected quality of my voice, and my overall health and well-being has improved drastically.
Tessa has been, and continues to be, the most knowledgeable voice practitioner I have yet to meet. Her warmth, genuine understanding of the emotional substrates connected with voice work, and technical knowledge of the voice are profound gifts which she shares with light, grace, wisdom, love, and joy. There is no one more valuable on my professional team or more dear in my inner circle than Tessa Lang.
Clinton Roane - Singer, Actor, Broadway's The Scottsboro Boys
"Working with Tessa has truly been a highlight of my career. I always look forward to seeing her because I know I'm not just getting a voice lesson from a trained professional, but I'm gaining wisdom from a friend as well. She 100% knows what makes the voice work (inside and out), which makes me feel confident as not only a singer, but as an artist. I've been able to apply the tips she's taught to all of my stage work. Whether I'm singing a song in a musical or reciting a monologue in a play, I can rest assured knowing Tessa's guidance is helping me maintain proper vocal health for all of my work. I recommend her to anyone hoping to give their voice longevity in their career. Thank you, Tessa!"
Dr. Matthew Tolstoy - Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine
“Physical integration of the voice has profoundly improved not only my singing but my ability to express myself in all contexts. As a healthcare provider, I feel a deeper, more authentic communication with my patients, which is invaluable. In addition, Tessa’s work has catalyzed such powerful personal transformation within me, and I’m so grateful to have found my way to her.”
Gabrielle Ambrose - Singer, Speech-Language Pathologist
M.S. Northwestern University, B.A. Fordham University
"It is fair to say that in my work as a speech-language pathologist, I rely on the teachings of Tessa and Johannes each and every day. Their phenomenal voice work and profound understanding of the human spirit have been guiding forces in every area of my life.
As anyone who has had the opportunity to work with Tessa and Johannes will attest, their technical mastery of the voice is unparalleled. Where attempts to convey the intricate anatomy and complex physiology of the voice often fall short, Tessa and Johannes have created a unique language with which they at once speak to the physical, emotional, and spiritual components of the voice. Their investment in each of their students is simply remarkable, and the results they elicit are nothing short of miraculous. One thing is for sure – if you are on a quest to discover your true voice, then these are the people for you!
I consider it a tremendous blessing to have met and worked with Tessa and Johannes. It is my most sincere hope that I can share with my own clients even a small part of the skill, joy, and personal freedom that Tessa and Johannes have given me."
Antoinette DiPietropolo - Director, Choreographer, Actor
Tessa has been the voice teacher that I have had for 20 years and I still learn something every time I walk out of the room. Her expertise amazes me to this day. I was sent to her with 2 vocal nodules. She was able to rework how I sing so healthy they went away without surgery. Over the years she has opened my voice up to go with the trends of how theater and singing have changed. With her individualized help she knows exactly what is needed to make each person succeed. I know that when I walk into an audition I am going to nail it. My booking rate went up exponentially once I started studying with her. She is now training me to sustain my voice for longevity. I know that I will be able to sustain a healthy vocal path for many years to come.

You will discover who you really are, and unearth the inextinguishable light that is, and always has been, within you. With great joy you will begin to hear something familiar, even if long forgotten--your voice! And this magnificent voice will become more and more itself--able to express all that you experience, all that you are. Never have I felt more well-being, never have I felt more potential, than in the embrace and guidance of Tessa and Johannes' healing hands."

I met Tessa and Johannes at the age of twelve, which is when my exploration of self began. Through integrating the artistic vehicles that keep me moving through the process of life, I have been able to realize and follow my deepest dreams and desires. I have been able to share my truth with the world because of the connection to my inner voice. From this place, life has proven to be a poignant and momentous adventure. My love and gratitude for Tessa and Johannes is infinite.

Julian Abelskamp - Actor, Singer
M.F.A. Columbia School of the Arts, Atlantic Acting School
My time with Tessa has profoundly affected my work as an artist and expanded me as a person. I came to her with a great deal of frustration with my voice; I sang professionally as a boy and felt as though I’d never been able to access the same depths of spirit and power in both my voice and self as an adult. Her unique ability to bring equal parts technician and empath to her sessions helped us quickly diagnose not just what was happening anatomically with my instrument, but the thought patterns and personal history behind those habits that needed to be addressed and realigned. Through our work with breath, text, and singing, I’ve gained access to a more connected, energized, and powerful instrument overall and stepped into a deeper understanding of myself and what I have to give. She has been far more than a teacher to me and I am utterly grateful for her presence in my life.
Joanna David Eubanks - Singer, Songwriter, & Actress

As well as, of course, my true voice — something I that, before working with Tessa, I thought was lost forever. Tessa and Johannes are the rare spirits of kindness and integrity which fill the pursuit of success with joy and discovery. To work with them is truly a gift.”

“I have never had a lesson with Johannes, even at moments of great personal or professional sadness or frustration, where I have not come away uplifted, with some piece of wisdom or practical suggestion to see me through. He is an extraordinary motivator. Johannes teaches awareness and openness, breath awareness, body awareness, an open awakening to your personal truth and the gifts you have to share. He shares his so abundantly and I continue to be the most grateful and humble recipient.”
Todd Estrin - Photographer, Humanitarian Activist

“I think you really need to work with Tessa to truly understand and appreciate her exceptional gifts as a teacher. From both a technical and experiential side I have learned what it means to take a ‘full’ breath. This work has both changed and challenged the relationship I have to my voice and myself. Her wisdom goes beyond that of a teacher. So grateful to have her part of my team.”
Liz Power - Singer, Voice Teacher
"Tessa Lang is unlike any voice teacher I have ever worked with. She not only has amazing knowledge and skill when it comes to physically releasing tension in the larynx, but she also addresses the underlying emotional issues that can be contributing to vocal tension. Before I met her, I was having major vocal problems. I had lost a big chunk of my range and my singing was very labored. I found out I had small nodules and I needed surgery. Tessa helped me get my voice back. Some people have surgery and never regain their ability to sing, but by working with Tessa, I was not only able to sing, but I was also able to sing in a much freer, healthier way. I was able to continue my career as a singer, and I recently started teaching voice myself. I have learned so many valuable things from Tessa and I only hope I can have the same positive influence on my students that she had on me."
Katelyn Pearce - Actress
I went to Tessa because I had constant throat tension that was such an obstacle to my work. What I found with Tessa was so much more than that. She has changed my life and that’s not hyperbole, it’s fact. I used to struggle so much with anxiety, it was debilitating. My work with Tessa has reduced that enormously and given me tools to help when it comes to a head again. And my work is just on a level I didn’t know existed inside me... and it’s reflective in my booking as well. I have booked more this year than all my years out of school combined!
Julia Hirsch - Actress, Singer
B.A. Vassar College, The Studio New York Actor Training Program
Working with Tessa has literally changed the sound of my voice. After struggling for years, feeling disconnected and strained, Tessa has helped me open the passageways that connect me to my breath, and my self. I feel empowered, alive, and able to breathe and speak from the center of my being. And for that gift I am endlessly grateful.
Luca Baleani - Performer (Italy)
Being a dancer I’ve always had a very physical approach to singing, trying to be in control of my diaphragm and my breath, clenching my every muscle to try and reach the right pitch, which would come out as a scratchy imitation of the note I was supposed to sing. When I started working with Johannes, I found a whole new world. I learned that my body knows its ways much better than I do, I started to let my breath move my body and muscles and not the other way around, and I realized that my voice would go almost automatically where it was supposed to go with what felt like minimum effort. It’s all about the breath, and once you learn how to let your body be led by your breath you don’t just sing, but you start living the song, you’re much more into the song and the interpretation comes along, too. That’s probably the most important thing Johannes taught me, to let my breath dance through my body and muscles and let it be in control. The very moment I learned that lesson I officially said goodbye to days and days of sore throat, hoarseness and “struggle against the notes” and welcomed an extended voice range, the well-being of my larynx and trachea and a brand new knowledge of the mechanics of my body!
Samantha Levy - Farm Activist, Singer
B.F.A. in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts; M.A. in Food Systems from NYU
I began working on my voice with Tessa in my early 20’s while I was still auditioning and performing professionally in Musical Theatre. Tessa not only helped me re-learn how to use my voice technically and physically as a singer-but throughout our years of working together (going on eight!) she helped me clear out old gunk and guided me to find my true voice in life as well. I now put all of the skills that she helped me to develop in our lessons to work advocating to keep land in farming, help farmers access land and improve access to healthy, fresh food for all. Tessa is a unique, and powerful guide and healer-one of the rare vocal teachers who has a strong grip on how to use one’s voice not only as a singer, but in all aspects of life. The laryngeal reposturing work has revolutionized how I breathe and quite simply changed my life. I owe so much to my work with Tessa-and am grateful every day to have found such a wise, loving, intuitive teacher who truly knows the voice and how to guide students to making their truest, most beautiful sounds.
